08 Nov 07 Vientiane - Arrival
Catch your flight - Laos Airways QV322 departing at 16:30 & arriving at 17:50. Arrive Vientiane where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

09 Nov 07 Vientiane to Sala Hine Boune
Take small packs packed for one night and set out for a drive thru the country side to a tributary of the Mekong. There you will catch a long tail boat upstream to Sala Hine Boune Eco Lodge.
Along the way you will pass buffalo cooling in the waters of the river, dodge fish traps and sand banks, and pass below many local villages. The lodge is set on the bank of the river and in the afternoon you can swim in the river or just relax on the balcony of your room and watch the sun set.

10 Nov 07 Kong Lo Cave
Early this morning you will continue up river for half an hour or so, before reaching a village beyond which you need to be in smaller local boats. Transfer across and your new guides will take you up to Kong Lo Cave where you will have to walk around the rapids clambering over rocks at the entrance to the cave as they work the boats thru to calmer water.
Back in the boats enter the 4 km long cave, stopping to see formations midway. Your driver expertly propels the boats the way lit only by flashlight, thru this amazing limestone tunnel at times 100 meters wide and nearly as high. On the far side you will reach the Shangri-la of Laos, a valley accesible only by this cave or by foot. Once more in daylight stop for a drink and a light breakfast on the bank of the river. The villages in this area are dependent on this route thru the mountain for all their communication with the outside world!
Returning thru the cave once more stop at the lodge for lunch before taking to the river again to join your transport down stream and returning to Vientiane.

11 Nov 07 Luang Prabang - Arrival
You will be transferred to Vientiane Airport in time for your onward
flight - Laos Airways QV111 departing at 11:20 & arriving at 12:00. Upon arrival in Luang Prabang you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Take a guided tour of the town's Wats, an amazing array of Buddhist temples and stupas all in use today. Watch monks chanting and going about their daily lives. After lunch journey up the Mekong River in a longboat to visit the Pak Ou Caves. Along the way you can stop and visit traditional villages each selling their unique craft. Pak Ou Caves are set high above the river and are filled with thousands of Buddha images. These images have been placed here for centuries by visiting pilgrims.

12 Nov 07 Luang Prabang - Day on the Mekong
After breakfast, take a longtail boat crossing to the right bank of the Mekong and the pottery making village of Ban Han. From here take a thirty minute walk to Wat Long Khoune village. Another boat will take you from here up river to the rice-wine distilling village of Ban Sang Hai followed by a visit to the Pak Ou caves famous for hundreds of miniature statues of the Buddha. Return to Luang Prabang by longtail boat in the late afternoon.

13 Nov 07 Luang Prabang - Cooking Class
Head to Tum Tum Cheng Restuarant where your cooking class leader will take you to a local market and then teach you various Laos dishes. Visit the herb garden and find out about local spices before enjoying a delicious lunch prepared by you.

Transfer to Luang Prabang airport from your hotel in time for your flight - Vietnam Airways VN8665 departing at 16:45 & arriving at 17:45
